Songs can go viral without major label/radio backing now. Like Old Town Road is the most famous example--TikTok made that song what it became. There's also been a lot of other examples of small (or older) songs suddenly blowing up and the artists becoming relevant because it's used in a million TikToks. Dunno if that's what the article says, just my opinion.
After what TikTok did for Savage, Say So, The Box, Old Town Road, etc. we’ll be seeing artists try to recreate their viral success on TikTok (like Drake’s Toosie Slide)
