aw, that's great of her to support the intensive care society. i feel like i've banged on about this a lot recently but my dad had a sudden, v serious illness 2 and a half yrs ago and was admitted to our local itu - he was in intensive care and the step down unit for around 6 weeks. he was extremely ill, had a lot of setbacks, and basically was not expected to survive (he did and is doing incredibly well!). the nurses and healthcare assistants were absolutely incredible, not just to him but to us. it was the hardest time of my life and the love and outreach they showed my family is something i'll never forget. they even wrote a diary for him so he has something to read and fill in the gaps with from their perspective. my parents go back every year around the time when my dad was admitted to give them cards/chocolates etc.
