So, NBC ruined the show why?

I think his relationship at the end with Holly was really rushed. Also, him getting her moved from her bf and friends because he was obsessed with her was not cute. Nope!

He asked Kathy Bates to move her back to Stanford because he was obsessed. She told him that he romanticized their relationship and he still was obsessed. She was happy with her bf and he still was obsessed.

Michael and Holly did not have a love story. They should have fleshed it out more but instead they rushed it and we're supposed to think his Ott obsession was cute.

They definitely ruined the show but it mostly was about money. They knew he was going to ask significantly more than they wanted to spend since they were already in syndication.
The people running shows care more about what is able to gain more in reruns rather than artistic integrity.

What was his deal asking for? Couldn’t be any worse than Ed Helms leaving for episodes at a time.

it actually kinda sounds like they didn't want him back...which is crazy to me.
“He didn’t want to leave the show. He had told the network that he was going to sign for another couple of years. He was willing to and his agent was willing to. But for some reason, they didn’t contact him. I don’t know if it was a game of chicken or what… He planned on staying on the show. He told his manager and his manager contacted them and said he’s willing to sign another contract for a couple years. So all of that was willing and ready and, on their side, honest. And the deadline came for when they were supposed to give him an offer and it passed and they didn’t make him an offer. So his agent was like, ‘Well, I guess they don’t want to renew you for some reason.’ Which was insane to me. And to him, I think.

He must have cost too much. NBC stays shady.

He likely wanted to negotiate his paycheck following a new season. That's what I assume.

It says they didn't even make him an offer.

Weird. Maybe they thought they could rejuvenate the show with the new managers gimmick but Michael WAS the show so that was a really stupid gamble.

They should have paid him because the show was awful without him.

yikes if those stories are true. How dumb of NBC. The show was already pretty bad, but it became insufferable after he left.
