I'm very, very glad Tina Turner ended up doing "Goldeneye" (one of my favorite Bond songs), but "Searching for the Golden Eye" is an interesting song in itself, but I wouldn't have seen it as that particular movie's theme. (Though I wonder what the opening sequence would've been like since it's more upbeat rather than dramatic.)
Don't agree with the original article's downplay of "For Your Eyes Only" - Sheena Easton was fine. "World is Not Enough" is definitely underrated, and Shirley Mason's vocals are beautifully haunting.
Wasn't Duffy's "Rain on Your Parade" a rejected Bond theme? I think I remember reading that somewhere.
The best Bond theme was Tina Turner, obvs, handsdown.
To stay true to my brand of resident F+TM stan, I wanna point out Florence Welch has already written a perfectly good Bond-worthy song and they should get her to do one at some point:
They should ask Lana to sing a Bond theme. Her sound, songwriting and aesthetic are a perfect match. Her album Honeymoon is filled with Bond type of songs, most notably “24”.

Lana was always tailor-made for Bond I'm surprised they didn't go with her for Spectre.
