LA Times Interview Blindsides Soloist Taemin with Question about Jonghyun's Death

TW/// dec. 17/18
In the LA Times article with SuperM they mention the events multiple times and they asked Taemin about it personally. It was unnecessary and inappropriate. Please don’t read it if you don’t want to see that. I only ss these as proof for anyone else to see. pic.twitter.com/lJhVqyRth7

Disgusting. And the fact that the capitol records rep made him answer the question after stating he wanted to keep his feelings private. :(

also on a different note, the title of the article is fucking stupid too lol not every kpop boy band is trying to be bts... literally half the members of superm have been around longer than bts and none of their songs sound like bts songs???? idk its just so infuriating that since bts got popular in america that suddenly everyone wants to be bts. you can tell that the interviwer doesn’t know jack shit about kpop just based on that title, so the disgusting question about jh doesn’t surprise me. disappointed!!!

Well, regarding your second point. I already had this conversation and my takeaway is the SuperM is definitely trying to be BTS because 1) they have 7 members and no other group in kpop history has had 7 members; 2) they are performance based and no other kpop groups has ever focused on performance and 3) there is rapping in their music and no other kpop groups have rappers. So, I guess it's settled!

I hope the me take health conversation keeps going, not only in Kpop, but within the country as well. Korea used to have the highest volume of suicides in the world and have slowly made improvements over the years.

you have to find your new normal. you need to have access to medical professionals and you need to be able to step back from your life and say, help me. in the same way someone w a broken leg needs to take time off to deal w that broken leg, i need time off to deal w the fact that my brain does not work like it should. but our society isn't set up to accommodate that.I feel this so hard. When I first went into treatment for my depression, I struggled so hard with not being "normal" anymore and my mom really hammered it into me that I had to find a new normal, and I did, eventually. I was lucky enough to be in a situation where I was allowed to press pause on my life and take the time to heal. Medication helps a lot and I've been very lucky to find what works ( ... )

sorry for the late reply but absolutely, that's what kills me too. ugh i don't want to get into it cuz i'll cry but i saw him getting worse and i had hoped he would hold out. when i heard the news i didn't know what to do... he was literally talking about it the entire time while actively advocating and spreading love, and it both makes me sad and viciously angry that through all the help he was getting, it wasn't helping at all. that therapist needs to be fired, he should've been vilified. anyway i hope he carries that guilt in his heart ( ... )

The title is awful and it's your typical racist bullshit because the only similar thing about those 2 groups is that they are Korean but as annoying as it is its expected of your average white man journalist, but that question was out of line, wtf?? Taemin gave an amazing response , how much of an asshole you could be to ask someone that?

You know, in that previous post about Bong Joon Ho Praising BTS and wondering why Bong Joon Ho gets praise and respect from Western Critics and BTS doesn't - a lot of people were in that post going, "they're a boyband, boybands don't get respect in general that's all it is" - but then you look at write-ups like this and other write-ups for other kpop groups and I genuinely don't get how anyone can defend the way Western media and music critics write about these groups. The nuances in the way the two mediums are written about is really something.

I don't think people were defending how Western media writes about kpop groups though, just that in that case that comparison was off because those are 2 mediums that are very different , but yeah, how people write about them is really shitty , also their interviews, they get asked the same boring questions , get treated like kids, in the articles someone always has to bring up Jonghyun and now Hara and Sulli , etc, is awful

And most of the time the ones who do the interviews are white men who seem uninterested or like they don't know anything about the topic at hand as if it wasn't part of their job to investigate about the people they are going to interview and their background
