Julie Andrew's father was a teacher of metalwork and woodwork. Her parents divorced, married other people. She lived with her father for awhile until he sent her to live with her mother. They were "very poor and we lived in a bad slum area of London," Andrews recalled, adding, "That was a very black period in my life."
Then her mother & step-father's fortunes improved and the moved to better neighborhoods.

Maggie Smith's was a secretary and her father was a public health pathologist from Newcastle upon Tyne who worked at the University of Oxford.

Wow @ Julie. I forgot about all that. And the... sexual abuse. :/ I remember more vividly her musical education.

Kate Winslet, I want to say, came from an underprivileged background as well, and I used to love her, but all her dumbass comments lately turned me off to her.

I love Maggie Smith, but yeah, her dad was university educated.

Yeah, I was really disappointed with Kate tbh... I know no one is perfect but that whole press tour for that Woody Allen film left me with my mouth open.

I want to watch that film ( haven't yet, sadly). I love both their work. Especially Mullan since he's so vocal about the working-classes and how he was a part of a street gang as a teen. Good actor AND a good director.
