Now that Disney has learned they can't waltz their way into dominating the Animated Feature segment of the Oscars, they have moved onto the next closest thing - Dominating Best Visual Effects*
Alita was a stunning movie and one of my favorites of the year. It def deserves a VFX nom.
Controversial but I think Lion King deserves one too. Whether realism was a good choice or not I do think the movie looks good. They set out to make a hyperrealism remake of the lion king and they succeeded, it was very realistic. That doesn’t mean it was effective, though.
TROS looked like garbage.
Everyone says the deaging in The Irishman was distracting but I had no idea how much of a difference there was until I saw a side by side with the unaltered footage. I think it looked really good minus the one flashback to De Niro during the war.
They forgot properly shop their eyelids back in. They all have the droopy eyelids of old men that we know that these guys actually didn't have when they were young. How they got that VFX nom I will never know.
