Misha Collins recovering after hip replacement surgery

Dec 18, 2019 18:56

I wore out my hips running with a condition called “dysplasia,” which is not as sexy as it sounds. Today I got a hip replacement from Dr. Berger in Chicago. Thanks to this team & all who make a career of bringing health to others. Can’t wait to play kickball with my kids again! pic.twitter.com/ZpPvbBVzEd

Same, though I'm older than him. The left one was congenital, and the right one bit the dust a bit more than a decade after I had the OG bad one fixed. I'm cringing just thinking about him running like that tbh

It’s crazy how many leg/hip/knee issues runners have. My ex did track in high school and college and improper technique left him with lifelong knee and ankle problems

running is so unbelievably bad for your joints. some humans just weren't built for that, and just cause we can do it doesn't necessarily mean it's actually healthy or good for everybody. you can still get the same cardiovascular benefits of activities like jogging from other types of exercise too, so I really don't get why people insist on continuing to run even as their bodies literally break down

I think a lot of people just don't know how bad running can be. I'm overweight af and I've had relatives try to get me to go running with them and it's like, I already have bad ankles and knees I'd like to still be able to walk thanks.

Also the culture around marathon running is really messed up. My cousins gf ran a marathon and half way through she threw up and and passed out, then got up and finished the marathon and I'm pretty sure I was the only person in my family who was horrified about that lol.

yup! in med school they literally taught us exactly how and why running puts so much undue stress on your joints. and you're correct, it's essentially 10x worse if you weigh more, because the full force of your body crashes into your joints with every hard impact stride. running, especially regularly and for long distances on hard surfaces, wrecks havoc on your body but for all those same reasons running also burns mad calories so imo our skinny obsessed society isn't ready to talk about that lol

it's a shame more people can't have access to a pool or beach regularly cause swimming is aerobically just as good but has no negative effect on the joints cause of the zero g

He's been having issues for a while but I didn't think he had fucked up his hips that badly. At least he's taking care of it and is in recovery now!
