Reese is such perfect casting for Mrs. Richardson.

y'all are gonna eat me alive for this, but i'm annoyed they changed mia and pearl's races. the author wrote them the way she did for a reason. yes we need diversity in film, but i don't think the art of minority women needs to be altered to accomplish it. if the producers wanted a ~diverse cast they could have adapted celeste's first novel, which was made up almost entirely of chinese and chinese-american characters.

While reading the book I definitely picture Mia and Pearl to be Asian. But upon a Google search afterwards I apparently missed some crucial details that suggest they're more likely to be black. It's never actually clarified in the book.

What were the clues? I thought they surely weren't because it goes to such lengths to point out that the oldest daughter's boyfriend is black but then didn't do the same for the two of them

From her interview with DeseretNews (I did some googling)

Ng said she’s been able to read scripts and sit in the writers room for the show and will hopefully get to be there for some filming.

“They're making some tweaks that I love that I think will bring new readers in, and even if you've read the book, you'll enjoy seeing which things are fleshed out more, which things are a little different,” Ng said.

So she must have been on board? I can’t imagine they’d make a change like that unless she approved it. Maybe it was her idea? Hopefully she wasn’t strong armed.

um this makes this series look like a thriller, which the book most certainly was not

mte. i just turned to my friend and was like "this is weird, they're making it seem like some crazy thriller which is not what the book was like at all..."

I really liked the book, it didn't hit me like Everything I Never Told You, but it was very enjoyable. Super curious to see how this unfolds. I hope they kept the '90s setting.
