Obesity in itself is not something that should be glamourized. But we’ve become so politically correct that no one wants to say it.”

I wouldn’t use the word “glamourized” but the movement needs to watch out for people like Sonalee Rashatwa. She is an awful and dangerous person.

i looked up her instagram @/thefatsextherapist and wow she has some pretty wild takes. organizing meetings with armchairs is a microaggression? ok...

but medical fatphobia KILLS people. especially black women. their medical concerns aren't taken seriously and they're told to just lose weight and doctors don't believe them when they say it's something more

the medical fatphobia is insane. also, the idea that thinner = healthy. i've been all over the map with my weight. at my fattest, i swear i could go in with a broken arm and they'd be like 'you're fat, what do you expect?' i actually had a PA tell me that. i was so humiliated that i didn't go back forever and started trying really hard to lose weight before going to get help again. lost the weight, went back because i was having the same issues i went in for when i was overweight, just worse. they were heaping praise on me for losing weight and saying how great i must feel now, how healthy they were sure i was now. i was like nooo why do you think i'm here?! tf

There's a difference between not glamourizing the effects of obesity and being an asshole to people, and most people cross it. It's almost as if people feel better about themselves whenm they make fun of obese people!

Who is the fuck is glamorizing obesity?!? Is being fat aspirational now? Or does it make her uncomfortable when fat people don't feel like shit about themselves?

Anyway, here is something I read last night that rang very true to me, a person who has been fat her whole life. And it even mentions The Biggest Loser!

Excerpted here if you haven't read it yet, though also read the whole book it's really good https://t.co/1IRp4bWQGm

When someone like Tess Holiday is put in a runway show or on the cover of a magazine, that's glamorizing obesity. It doesn't happen very often, but it does happen.

That's a fat person being on a cover of a magazine and a fat person modelling clothes. Come on. Don't be a dick.

it reads like she's saying "Fat people shouldn't be shamed for being fat, but they should be ashamed of being fat"

vulcan_rhapsody December 6 2019, 22:32:18 UTC
that's probably exactly what she means

Maybe not ashamed but concerned?

i want to know why fat is such a moral failing. you can be sweet, kind, loving, politically active, a good person by anyones estimation and if you are fat you are told you better beat yourself up about it. better be concerned. better feel ashamed. we are such a nation of window dressing. never mind if it's health or your happy inside, if you look good then you must be ~fine~. i've met people who legit think the worst thing that could ever happen to them is to be fat. not losing their family. not getting cancer. gaining weight.

that's so fucked up it's not even funny. and nobody ever wants to talk about food deserts, or the fact that ones income can have a huge, no pun intended, correlation to their weight. no! feel bad cause you don't look like you should be on the cover of vogue. feel bad cause more men don't want to objectify you. don't own your power cause you might tear down the damn patriarchy.
