The 2019 IFP Gotham Awards take place tonight in NYC, and are arguably the start of the awards season. I'll put the nominations under the cut and update/highlight the winners throughout the night. I haven't seen all the docs, so I can't speak to that, but I am happy with the other winners so far. Honestly, this season has a lot of good films.

I’ll never get used to how early the Gotham’s are. Speaking of which... the oscars are gonna be a full month early this year, and I really don’t think I’ll manage to watch as many award season films as I usually do, which is a bummer.

Also shout out to the edge of democracy, which has 0 chance of winning, and wasn’t the greatest filmmaking accomplishment, but damn, it hit me strong.

adam driver's road to the gold begins

I would have been happy with Adam Driver or Willem Dafoe, so wooooooo! I love Andre Holland, but HFB wasn't very good.

Yeah, they were both fantastic in their respective movies. I also really liked Adam Driver in The Report although that movie is a doozy. Having said that, I think Americans (the world) have a right to know the horrendous and evil things this country does.
