This is so shocking and sad, he was so young.

This is one of the reasons why it's incredibly bad to force/have a culture of encouraging people to work when they're sick, if you have any underlying health problems they are 100000% worse when you're ill. 2 years ago my mum went to work even though she was recoving from the flu and it was very hot, and she had a stroke. We discovered after that it was because she has atrial fibrillation that was triggered by the illness, heat and exertion (plus genetics, apparently loads of people in our family drop dead in their 50s ffs which she failed to flag with a doctor earlier). We're very lucky that her work is close to a hospital, and a charity that works with people with health conditions so she got off lightly and is mostly ok from it.

a lot of mistakes in surgery happens because there are some surgeries that go over 8 hours (12, even longer) only with a small window to drink water and pee.

doctors and nurses losing a small gauze after 12 hours of constant work on foot are sad but true. now they do try to bring a fresh crew to help for these long-ass surgeries but I've been inside surgeries with doctors that already go 9 hours straight and i just can't.

They do make more mistakes, but unfortunately mistakes also happen more during shift changes. Shorter shifts means more changes, which means more mistakes because of that. It's up for debate whether the fatigue or change is worse for the patient, even though long shifts are obviously worse for the workers.

I'm so glad your mum's doing okay <3 that's so scary though, holy shit. it's so ridiculous we're expected to work when we're sick, like truly. Your body is so vulnerable during that time

Yep. A woman at my company was sick and refused to take sick days (my company is actually good at encouraging people to stay home/giving PTO, so it was her choice). She ended up having pneumonia and dying.

So true, I know especially in Asian culture it is known like you supposed to work extra hard if u wanna get somewhere. And you are expected to suck it up. But ppl are forgetting about their own physical health. Like it’s ok to take a rest.

We keep telling ourselves that if we work hard, our bosses will recognize it and reward us with promotions, raises, etc... but lbr, how many supervisors are actually worth dying for?

It doesn't matter if other managers see our efforts, the only one who matters is the one we're directly working under. Bosses dgaf since as far as they're concerned, you're doing what you're being paid to do, they don't need to pat you on the back for "doing your job".

2 days after getting eye surgery, my boss made me go on a business trip even after telling him that i couldnt do strong labor. It would have been alright but in this trip we were going to climb to record some people training. The strain of climbing made me faint, sick and have blurry vision for 2 days. He had to pay extra for the doctors for not listening to me 🤷
