The tuning fork is a bit much and all the other stuff seems overpriced, but at the same time is it or are we just used to seeing shit made by virtual slave labor in a sweat shop and priced accordingly? I imagine a lot of the stuff she sells are made by hand by well compensated skilled artisans, or least I would hope so. Consumerism is bad and spending $200 on a plate is also probably a bad idea but lbh, cheap stuff has a cost. I'm ambivalent to this, at least some of this stuff seems semi useful as opposed to jade vagina eggs?

This is my thought too.

I agree with you, the only item description I bothered to read said that is was made by an artisan from Japan.

We are way too used to cheap stuff, sometimes we don't realize the true cost of well made things and think it's overpriced.

Especially when it comes to house stuff, you are supposed to buy things that are meant to last but people prefer to buy cheap glasses from walmart that end up exploding when you wash them with hot water (actually happened to me).

I get what you're saying about the cost of items. Some stuff is clearly ridiculously priced, but the pricing of a lot of inexpensive goods we buy is questionable at best and extremely exploitative and harmful at worst.
People get on my case about buying a $20 or $30 t shirt sometimes but at least, from my knowledge, it was ethically produced y'know?

all marie kondo internet discourse is EXHAUSTING. I would not buy a single one of this stuff, but she's not forcing me to. like she didn't force people to "throw their things out"

I'm pretty happy I followed her tidying method and I hope there'll be a season 2 of her show

That’s how I feel too. I’m checked out her books and am trying to begin using her tidying methods, but there is definitely a racist and xenophobic fueled backlash/outrage to her mere existence that I find tiring and hypocritical.

the books were really helpful to me, I hope you'll find them useful as well. they're much more detailed than the show and there's a lot of very good advice.

Honestly, even the positive comments where people call her "the tiny woman" and constantly calling her cute and little make me uncomfortable.

I'm not keen on the stuff she is selling, but at least she's not suggesting I stick it in my vagina...
