Holy shit this episode was intense. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about that big reveal. I’m going to need a little more time to process it. Rewatching this show will be an entirely different experience now that we know what we know.
I loved how this episode was like a play. It was a fantastic hour of television.
it definitely will be interesting to do a rewatch now, people have already been pulling up old quotes from the show that take on new meaning after the reveal
okay what the fuuuuuuck I kind of gradually saw where we were headed during Elliot and Krista's conversation, but when I started thinking about how carefully Esmail has planned the series and that he didn't just come up with this idea, this is what THE ENTIRE SHOW has been about, I was shook as fuck. It puts everything in a different context, from his taking down a porn guy in the first ep to Darlene's "Dolores Haze" pseudonym...ugh. It's a lot
( ... )
Honestly I'm not mad at the fact Darlene wasn't there. She'd also be forced to deal with past trauma in a setting where Elliot is the only person she knows, and God only knows if she's also a victim of her father or has witnessed the abuse. Darlene cares about Elliot so much that I know she's also protecting him from these things, we just don't know the extent of it.
and like she doesn't have a relationship with Krista, she doesn't know Vera. I'm glad she wasn't there.
I mean, I didn't want her in that scene specifically, especially not with crazy Vera, but I feel like she should've been part of his big revelation in some way? She had the big "did you forget again? I'm your sister" moment with him in S1 (which again, GOOD GOD the different context now with him unknowingly trying to kiss her) and then they had that big fight and eventual reunion in the silent ep. I love their relationship sfm and it seems to be something that bonded them, if he was trying to protect her. idk yet, I guess we'll find out.
I just still don't understand the creative choice to have Vera be a big factor in that hugely important moment for him -- but tbh @ this point I should accept that the show's 15 steps ahead of me and it'll make sense in the end. It was just hard to watch the trauma on top of trauma. :\
