It's kind of ridiculous to me when people harp on legal filing dates when you really have no clue how long the relationship was over before someone filed, and it seems like some people feel no need to make it legal until there is someone else. But then again there are people who think even if you're legally separated you shouldn't date until you are officially divorced. IDK I feel like it's a weird thing to focus on.

Yeah, the comments here are...ugh. Look at the pictures of him taken with her - he clearly was not trying to keep it a secret. It sucks and is perplexing why you would divorce someone after 40 years but that doesn’t automatically mean he’s a cheater or a creep. They could’ve been done for years and not bothered filing for divorce until one of them wanted to get remarried or something.

Yup. My mom couldn’t afford to divorce my dad until she was ready to marry my step-dad (he had to help pay fees). If you look at dates alone it’s sketchy because they were married up until a week before her wedding to my step dad (or like a month), but in reality they’d been separated for over 2 years.
