Why are people so obsessed with the numbers anyway? It's so odd to me, it's just a preoccupation with popularity I guess.

I feel this way about movies/box office, but people get so mad if I ever bring it up for some reason.

I think the box office makes a little more sense because millions of dollars are being thrown at those productions. It's nice when a bad film can't make it's money back and a person can naively hope that a flop means fewer chances for bad producers, directors, or overpaid lead actors. Or the opposite situation with good movies.

It's a lot more difficult to buy numbers with film. You can buy mass distribution for a shitty movie, but people can learn real quick to not waste their money on it vs. rabid stans blowing up streaming and youtube videos to earn for clout for their faves which costs them nothing but time and dignity.

I get that, but to me it's more that I've never found box office to be a reliable indicator of quality so it's useless in that regard, and I find cheering for a corporation to make the most money completely absurd. Flops are also way more likely to negatively impact careers of people who aren't white men so that feels thorny, too.

I would believe this if she didn't retweet praise about the success of her album right before lol.

everyone cares about the charts until they start to flop

This. If it was any good, she'd be acting like she did it all, claiming that executive producer credit. But it's a flop, so she's gonna drag fans for knowing it sucks.

Everything related to this bad movie is gonna come back and bite all involved.

It is still nuts to me that people can communicate with celebrities so easily. I don't know if I'll ever get used to the idea of @ing a celeb in a tweet, hoping/expecting them to see it. Bizarre

yeah i agree: it's a double edged sword. not only are celebrities already deep in the spotlight already, now they have to face fan scrutiny. but it's also a great way to gain new perspectives from both ends. (as much as i think ariana's handling this badly, i'm faced with the realization that i couldn't handle being a celebrity.)

I mean most blue checks won't give you the time of day and it's not realistic to expect that or seek it out unless you know them. It's obviously a dynamic she fosters and encourages. What a noble move to encourage no boundaries with young, impressionable fans for the sake of their devotion to filling her bank account and emotional voids.
