In case you missed it, Benioff and Weiss, great ruiners of the last season of Game of Thrones, have dropped their Star Wars project, citing 'scheduling conflicts' with Netflix.

PFFT, yeah right. But they're just the latest in a long string of directors who have gained - and lost - a Star Wars film under Kathleen Kennedy's producership:
  • Lord and Miller - Solo - Went on to make a movie other than the one they agreed upon, left, and went on to continue producing the far-superior "Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse".
  • Colin Trevorrow - Episode 9 - Creative differences + "Book of Henry".
  • Josh Trank - A Boba Fett Film - Where to begin. Honestly, I can't even blame Kennedy for not keeping him on.
It is unclear if Rian Johnson ("The Last Jedi") still has his standalone series.

Multiple insiders said new ideas were commonly shot down as Kennedy and her team were only looking for people to stick to the company line. Disagreements led to people leaving. Lawrence Kasdan is still used as a key sounding board after writing "Empire Strikes Back".

B&W were interested in exploring how the Jedi came to exist, which does sound far more interesting than the SW movies of the present.

"The Rise of Skywalker" opens on December 20th, 2019.
