I wonder if anyone made a bet on what would come out first, Current War or Chaos Walking.

Idg why they don't just release The New Mutants direct to VOD and call it a day.

still reeling from parasite tbh. loved that movie so much. i need to watch it again--there a lot of stuff about class that i feel like was more subtle that can get lost in the black humor/thriller/horror aspects. i was talking with a friend and he had interesting insights that i'd like to watch again and locate. ugh so good.

i've seen trailers for the current war, synonyms and frankie but none really jump out at me. from this list i think i'm most interested in burning cane and making waves.

[Spoiler (click to open)] notice how the Park family started acting like typical rich people just like...'well, you're being paid!' to the Kims in the second half of the film after being reasonably kind and down to earth in the beginning.

[Spoiler (click to open)]yup. and how at its core you have these three families and you can see how the lower two change as their class mobility changes. it really takes a hit at class solidarity but still shows the resentfulness that festers between lower and upper classes. and the disdain/worship that each has for each other playing out in different ways. and also the harmful obliviousness and naivete of the rich. they literally don't see what's under the surface--of their home. and then the sons desire to buy that same home to raise his father up again. its so fantastic.

I'm kind of curious about the director's cut, as I saw the 'regular' cut of The Current War TWO AND A HALF YEARS AGO, but I didn't like it then, so I doubt I'll like it now. I'm seeing Western Stars and that's about it, alas.

What have you been watching lately, ONTD? Seeing anything this weekend?

Our local indie theatres are finally getting the good stuff, so both Dolor y Gloria and Parasite are on my list for the next few days. Ozon's latest is also on the list in the coming days/weeks.

dead at the current war having to be referred to as the directors cut as if 99% of people are aware of its backstory.

As far as I know, they've only sent Benedryl Cumberbun out to promote The Current War, which is a bad sign in itself. Given the number of names that are in that movie, if they thought it was going to be a hit, all of them would be on the late night talks shows, doing their best to sell it. I can't believe they're giving it a wide release. Crazy.
