This week, Babish takes a turn for the sweet and opulent as we explore the possibilities of a $5 milkshake. Or rather, the lack thereof: there aren't many ways to inflate the price of a plain vanilla shake, outside of simply being served in an overpriced theme restaurant in LA. So let's see just how expensive we can make this sucker!

I'm surprised they never capitalized on the in-universe brands like kahuna burgers, the milkshake and the red-apple cigarettes.

I'd rather have ice cream, but a good milkshake is delicious. I'd never ever go plain vanilla, though.

i fucking subscribe to milkshakes. there's a burger place here that makes a marshmallow brulée milkshake and it's so amazing. choc/vanilla swirl with marshmallow fluff and a torched marshmallow on top.

I love milkshakes, unfortunately my digestive system does not. But I would never go for milkshakes and get just a plan vanilla one.

is a $5 milkshake supposed to be... expensive?

i like milkshakes enough but i wouldn't go to a place especially for milkshakes the way i do for ice cream. i mostly get them at diners. my favorite is a banana malt from fred 62. i think it's maybe 8? $13 if it's vegan

Yeah I feel like a $5 isn’t shocking anymore.

In the "old days" like the diner Mia and Vince visited in the movie, a milkshake would be less than $1 so a $5 milkshake would be expensive for that time.

Makes sense. I used the inflation calculator to see how much $5 would be now (google says the movie was set roughly around 1982) and today that would be $13. Which is pricey, but acceptable.

( I don’t watch this show but as a producer, I wish they did this research too bc then it would make more sense)
