In an interview with Empire, Scorsese said this about Marvel films: “I don’t see them. I tried, you know? But that’s not cinema.

Anyway, I both agree and disagree with Scorsese. My disagreement lies in his assertion that they aren't cinema, it's all cinema, but the quality and type of cinema can be viewed on a scale; it's like music and all the people who say certain genres or artists don't make 'music', they do, it just may not be to your taste or it's good/bad music to you.

I think he's refering to it as "cinema" instead of just "movies" to denote an art form behind it. The music analogy would stand if he just said "movies".

Scorsese didn't lie. Of course the creepy man-children are going to be upset about this. Comic books (and Star Wars) are their religion.
