Today, McDonald’s announced a new plant-based burger with the “P.L.T.” (plant, lettuce, and tomato). The new burger is a collaboration with Beyond Meat, and will begin testing for 12 weeks on September 30th in 28 restaurants throughout Ontario, Canada. The chain said it formulated the “P.L.T” to mimic the taste of McDonald’s regular meat patties and will sell for $6.49 Canadian dollars ($5 US).
“As customer interest in plant-based options accelerated rapidly, our curiosity piqued, too,” wrote Ann Wahlgren, Vice President of global menu strategy at McDonald’s. “We’ve kept an eye on this emerging trend, and now we’re ready to learn more by running a test in one of our markets.”
According to McDonald’s nutritional information, the “P.L.T.” has 460 calories and 25 grams of fat.
