Nah, its straight up child abuse. If you can't discipline your child(or pets!) without violence, you shouldn't have any.

You shouldn't ever get physical with a child whether they are yours or not.
Now I have told strangers' children to 'Please stop that' (not harshly or anything that would scare them)if they are tearing up a store or something and their own parents dont say anything. Workers should not have to deal with the aftermath of your child not knowing how to act and you not correcting them.
