Her experiences on set sound horrible and I’m sorry she’s had to go through that.

“Febrile and sensual” is an odd combo

I'm trying to parse through this--

as a native american she's been disrespected and treated horribly in the business

she took this job anyway (can't fault her for working for $$$) and while they were filming she was hoping it would... start this discourse???

but she think dior had pure intentions

but she thinks dior and not-voldemort should donate the money to native american causes??

???

It might be that she took the job thinking Dior had good intentions, but then while filming realized that they in fact did not, and therefore hoped it would start the discourse around it?

that makes sense. it must suck like getting hired and seeing all the other native americans they've hired and thinking, 'finally!' and then finding out what you're really doing.

she's probably worried about burning bridges when she said she isn't explicitly calling out dior and depp, but it's still very brave for her to come out and say something

That's a great point - it seems like they did hire quite a few native people to be on camera. It probably seemed very cool on paper, like they were about to get a positive spotlight. You really can never trust people in fashion.

I admire her optimism (and I don’t mean that in a shady way).

same.

trying to achieve your dreams in a system that repeatedly refuses to let marginalized groups be fully realized people instead of accessories for white people comes with a lot of compromises. i don't fault her for trying to make the best of impossible situations in pursuit of her personal and professional goals and still using her voice to call out systemic issues around race, ethnicity, and discrimination.

Yeah, I may not fully agree with her, but that’s my personal opinion and I don’t want to invalidate hers to push mine. I think it’s important to highlight the different views of Native American diaspora, because we all grew up differently and we can all learn from each other.

Yeah IA. While I wish POC would stop looking towards these racist brands for notoriety and opportunities, I can't fault her for taking a job opportunity. I am glad she is speaking out about it at least
