Deaf people are not disabled. I do appreciate this post though

I took ASL in college and it was so hard! I’m left handed and kept getting confused bc the instructor and most everyone else in the class were right handed. I remember him saying that the thing deaf ppl hated the most was when Hollywood made it look like deaf ppl can read lips easily, especially from like across the room, bc it’s not like that irl at all.

Maybe it isn’t? Someone more knowledgeable than me can clarify but I remember I was having a hard time mimicking the instructor bc he was using his right hand a lot and I was using my left. I have horrible hand-eye coordination so that did not help lmao

It’s not, people usually sign with their dominant hand (unless they learned it differently). since there are less left handed people than right handed, we don’t usually see it, but it’s ok to sign with your left :)

Damn I wanna be glad about Amber bc I want her to get all the roles and piss off the abuse apologizers, but then they pull this so it’s like *gestures angrily* fuck y’all

It isn’t that hard of a concept to cast disabled folks in disabled roles.

I never finished Switched at Birth but I appreciated that they cast actual deaf actors for that
