I'd do the same. Social media has ruined events.

I mean at the weddings I've been to for the last 5-6 years that was a given not to have your phone out during the ceremony.

However the last wedding I went to was like in the woods and no wifi and I was dying during the reception 'cause I only knew the bride. So I just kept drinking.

Maybe I'm becoming an Elderly Person but I am so fucking sick of seeing people's phones all day. Ever since I started working in a museum, I've experienced a new level of rage towards people on their phones. The amount of people every day who block crowds while posting on Instagram and recording vlogs fills me with an annoyance I scarcely knew before. Getting from one end of the museum to another throughout my shift is a constant nightmare because no one is watching where they're going or paying attention to other people because they're too busy posing for 50 selfies and then immediately posting them in the middle of the walkway. The amount of people I have to dodge who are trying to do walking tour videos of the exhibit is RIDICULOUS, and 99% of the time they're not even stopping to look at the stuff there. They just take pictures, film their annoying video, and leave without even enjoying the exhibit. I'm also 100% over people filming me without asking first while I'm trying to talk to a guest or show a kid something. If they asked ( ... )

When we did the caldera and volcano tours in Santorini, I was so mad at the tour guide that came with the yacht because he was really over cynical bordering on rude (and almost shitting us for going to the island), especially about not being recorded even though no one was recording his ass at all, but a few days after this I randomly thought of him and realized maybe he was just too fed up with travelers and tourists acting a fool all over the island

it’s astounding to see people go through exhibitions and take photos of every piece but never actually look at them

lol yeah. Like I would hope you're having enough fun where you don't have to turn to pulling out your phone every 2 minutes. If so, then well, you better not post an ugly picture of me bish lol

I hope we have a shift soon and everyone shuns social media. Sometimes I can feel it coming, and then I look around a subway car and realize how wrong I am.

I keep wanting to get rid of mine ... and then I can't. There are some people I only associate with via social (cool people I met online that I would lose connection with) and that keeps me on. I feel like I am just fighting loneliness though.

Even just deleting it off your phone and checking in every few days is a great middle ground. It makes it so much easier to figure out what’s worth my time and downloading the apps each time I want to check in is enough of a pain that I don’t feel keen to do it often.

My screen time doesn’t top an hour per day now unless I’m watching a movie or YouTube videos during some downtime.

Yeah I got rid of IG (well, the app on my phone not my whole acc) a few months ago and it feels great. I was wasting so much time on it and it was triggering my social anxiety but everyone I know still uses it and is their main method of communication.

With all the dating apps now, Meetup and so many other digital platforms like reddit and other forums, it's like some people don't even bother making new friends in person or approaching people. They know they can just take their phone and swipe people instead, which is like less risk and/or effort for them. But nothing substantial usually comes out of that... just feels like everyone has become so complacent with their online lives, and trying to make their current lives seem more interesting to others rather than actively trying to shape their life into what they want lol.
