I've been trying to learn Tagalog on my own but it's hard to find resources and nobody in my family has even spoken it since coming to Canada, so I've been thinking about putting it on hold to learn Spanish since there are so, so many resources, everyone speaks Spanish, and Tagalog/Filipino uses so many Spanish loanwords (yay colonization).

If you're interested, the app called Drops teaches Tagalog. Five minutes a day for free so it's easy to fit in. I think you can buy more time, too. I think it's pretty fun and straightforward and I'm enjoying learning Tagalog more than when I learned Spanish in a traditional setting, but like you said knowing Spanish makes it easier so that might be why.
