I don’t know if you guys had heard, but Disney’s The Lion King remake comes out this weekend. Apparently, the indie studios were well aware, because this week’s releases are rather... low profile. I’m gonna list some movies below, as always, but I’d recommend looking for the releases from the past few weeks - The Farewell (expands nationwide 8/2), The Art of Self Defense, or Midsommar.
The films listed are from studios other than the “Big Six” - Paramount, Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox, Universal, Columbia and Disney. Note that some of the movies listed are in their first week or two of limited release in the USA, so it may take them a few more weeks (or months) to show up in your local arthouse theater or on VOD. What you should know: According to IMDB, this had an estimated budget of $10 million dollars, making me question every fact I’ve ever quoted from IMDB.
