so i did like Midsommar, but i liked Hereditary better. the video review i saw kinda nailed it: it just needed a little more story in it and being able to invest in the characters. still Ari Aster is so so talented and i'll watch anything of his horror or not. to give the movie more credit, it did symbolism of the grieving process and breaking up pretty well.

[Spoiler (click to open)]-seasons of rebirth - the movie starts in winter with death, then spring/summer comes bloom... )

Absolutely. There are so many things I want to go back and look at again. It’s a fucked up, unnerving movie, but it’s not as traumatizing as Hereditary was for me lol.

i saw The Last Black Man in San Francisco on monday and it was so bad. i was shocked. the ending is just such a massive miscalculation... you're gonna claim your entire two hour movie is about gentrification and tie it up with a message that totally ignores the material effects of gentrification?

there was a lot of dubious shit that made me pause and think "wait is this director white? no way" but then i got home and looked into it and surprise! he is! i guess it's a good movie if you're really into a white man's take on respectable vs. boorish black modes of communication? aldgkjskldjg i didn't even like the look, there are like a hundred fucking zooms, it's nauseating. such a disappointment.

sundance and A24 complicit tbh
