There are so many quotable portions of @Nicole_Cliffe's interview with Alanis Morissette but this is the one where I realized Alanis knows me personally https://t.co/mrxrR8ySSG pic.twitter.com/Read more... )

I'm surprised and glad I guess that she's acknowledging the situation about Hands Clean was rape. I remember when the song came out at the time she downplayed it as just being a 14 yr old in a relationship with an older man and it bothered me but I know that it's hard to come to terms with things like that so I get it. It's such a good song too.

I think it was probably one of those things where she wrote the song and didn't really consider the questions that would come with it. Who the fuck wants to talk to a random person from Much More Music about getting raped as a teen? She probably was brushing it off to save herself from having to keep 'going there' in a climate that didn't understand statutory rape as what it is... IDK IDK, still such a brave song...

I think even before her acknowledging it, I pulled from that song from my experience and without her even saying what it was about, it helped me. Knowing that it happened to her and that was her release made so much sense.

Ugh, her MIND

This is my fav song by her, it puts me in a trance of melancholic self-reflection:

Her music is really timeless. I feel she has a song for every odd mood I have but I always circle back to his gem.
