ETA (after reading the other 7 comments) I have never seen any of his movies. He is producing some TV show in my high school town, and I read in the news that he paid everyone's debt at local Wal-Mart (whatever that means). That was pretty cool. Also on director commentary for Gone Girl Fincher talk very highly of him, and said that the whole experience of working with him was a joy.
I like him, too, for the good things he does. He's known to pay debts and take care of people. He is problematic in his movies, though. The black girls always need a man to save them, the white people and dark-skinned black people are almost always the bad guys. And Madea is just there.
His success opened the door for better black creatives to have a lane so for *that* I'm thankful but WHEW CHILLAY does he hate black women and gay people!!
(Diary of a mad black woman is everything to me tho, NGL and the first 'Why did I get married?' was a cute enough time)
It's arguably his most subtle work or at the very least the most subtle use of Madea and Kimberly really nails all the emotional beats her character has to process. And I think I want to check out Daddy's Little Girls & I can do bad all by myself too.
To think we went from that to Acrimony but then again I doubt any of those good ones were shot in 8 days like Acrimony was.

I mean if you've watched any of his movies you can see he's sending that message but if he really said it.. yikes. Did I miss the backlash?
