honestly the best thing that could have happened to this franchise was disney/marvel finally taking over the rights.

For real. These new movies had great potential, but they ended up screwing up as always.

This movie was disappointing, but their track record has been pretty good overall (X-Men, X2, First Class, DoFP, Logan, Deadpool, etc. Even Apocalypse was decent enough IMO).

Not to mention we're losing series like Legion and Gifted because of the Disney deal, and the planned Dr. Doom movie.

This movie was so bad and I'm still pissed at them for [Spoiler (click to open)]killing off Raven. Especially after she gave that whole speech to Hank about how she wanted to live her own life away from Charles because she had been doing what he told her to do for years now and that wasn't life.

[Spoiler (click to open)]Remember how Jean killed Charles on X-Men 3 when they went looking for her at her childhood home? Well, this time, instead of killing Charles, she killed Raven when she was trying to calm her down. It was supposed to be an "accident".

I understand in meetings, some marketing execs didn’t even realize the release date changes on Dark Phoenix, and weren’t cognizant of the fact that the film was opening up against another franchise this weekend (i.e. Secret Life of Pets 2). Says one source, “They never brought it up in meetings that we were on the same date.

Now, for quite some time, the last two Bryan Singer X-Men movies (Days of Future Past and Apocalypse) and even 2009’s Wolverine: X-Men Origins have been Frankenstein-ed together during their last phases of production. Richard Donner reportedly finished Wolverine, while the village-effort of producer Hutch Parker, producer/scribe Simon Kinberg (both not available for comment on this piece), DP Newton Thomas Sigel, and editor/composer John Ottman picked up the huge slack on Days of Future Past and Apocalypse whenever Singer would reportedly go AWOL from the set.

Oh well.

The story was done so well in the animated series.

I had like 0 attachment to these characters. I cry so easily in movies and TV but felt nothing here.

Why doesn't anyone involved love the source material.

hollywood execs in expensive suits have never picked a comic book in their life, which is why they always end up making botched decisions based purely on monetary economics. the reason why the avengers franchise is so successful is because marvel is directly involved and is overseeing everything.

Marvel isn't directly involved or overseeing the MCU, that's Kevin Feige. Feige in fact, got the other person involved with the MCU who didn't know/love the source material -Ike Permutter, kicked out of the MCU. Not so fun fact, Perlmutter is still in charge of non-MCU Marvel, except for the movie properties of Spider-Man, Incredible Hulk, and Namor???(it's complicated). And Feige still reports to Alan Horn (who reports to Bob Iger).

Feige is a genuine comic book lover, whose career had been working up the ladder on a variety of Marvel films before he was put in co-charge of the newly formed MCU. Ike Perlmutter, who is in charge of the rest of Marvel, isn't a comic book lover, and he's a fucking asshat Twitler supporter, and was one of three people Twitler was having run the VA as part of their covertly wanting to move it to privatization.

by marvel i meant marvel studios who are known for the production of MCU films, which dark phoenix is obviously not.
