tv/movie productions act like they're god's gift- a good portion of them that film on location are giant pains in the ass

i hate them, they're such an inconvenience and the amount of times i've been yelled at by PAs in nyc just trying to get home or get to my office is annoying. it's been like 7 years and the worst one was Girls. they filmed right outside of my office and then left so much trash in the street that we were all stunned, they didn't even clean up after themselves. all other productions have at least done that.

They film here regularly and never spend money in the area. They don't hire local even though we host a fucking film festival every year and have a ton of qualified people driving pedicabs. Even the catering is from out of state. We have a real issue with parking for workers in the historic district and these assholes regularly eat up all the low-fee lots with their staging areas. And the production assistants are always snotty assholes when they bring in closure notices to the business.

Sounds like your city government needs to step in. "Hire at least 20% locals for your production."

Good for her for standing up for herself.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood closed down a block near my office for filming, including closing a Starbucks. I can’t even imagine what they got paid for that!

Don't blame the store owner at all. I remember Bronx Tale filmed in Astoria, Queens years back. And I personally know of three businesses that wind up closing not long after they had to shut down for filming. They were told it would only take X amount of days to film, but it took like 3 times as long, and the production company wound up not even paying them the tiny daily amount they promised them at the end of filming. They just couldn't recover from the money lost.

The name "Robert Deniro" is anathema in that neighborhood even to this day, lol.
