Eta: apparently she's traveling with 2 passports, one expired and one valid. Her old visa must be on the expired passport. There's no other reason why she'd be carrying it otherwise. Needless to say a visa attached to an expired passport is no longer valid

I think it is diff here. I don't think our feds would accept any kind of expired document. Considering also the US visas are harder and more expensive to get but last many years, but brazilian visas are quick and cheap to get and don't last a long time. It could also just be straight up expired or be the wrong kind of visa (like tourism instead of business). Either way it's confirmed tgat she applied for a new visa while with the feds. Apparently the people organizing the con even got in touch with the brazilian consulate to speed up the approval process. It really is the easiest thing to get a brazilian visa, it costs 40 dollars and all you have to do is fill out an online form.

I know this is serious for her, but the whole set-up is comedic. I mean travelling to Brazil for a Teen Wolf convention, and then being detained without food and water at the airport. Fans having to fight for her release. lol I wish her the best.

I don't feel bad for her. if the feds say her visa is invalid, it's invalid. She didn't post any pics of it in social media so we only have her word for it.

Anyway this is common procedure if you don't have a valid document. They were nice enough to let her apply for a new visa right there and wait til the following day to see if it was approved (it really is THAT easy to get a visa) instead of putting her on a plane right then and there. She's currently in the airport hotel.

Brazilians with actual valid visas can face detention for much longer in US airports while immigration decides whether to let us in, and we don't get food or water either, or translators, nor do we wait in nice hotels in the airport. This has happened to multiple people I know.
