I was discovered by a master filmmaker by the name of John Singleton. He not only made me a movie star but made me a filmmaker. There are no words to express how sad I am to lose my brother, friend & mentor. He loved bring the black experience to the world. ..Us at Cannes ‘90

i also wondered if hypertension played a role in this, i'm sorry to read it did. it's such a problem in black communities and never seems to be evaluated in relation to black health the way it should be. it's a genuine correlation and it doesn't seem like anyone's worked to figure out why or how to eradicate it (i could be 100% wrong [obvs])

His family also noted that like many African Americans, he quietly struggled with hypertension. More than 40% of African American men and women have high blood pressure, which also develops earlier in life and is usually more severe. Mixed with the fact that it's been proven that black people get considerably subpar healthcare, 40% is an especially scary number.
