so this woman was an author with a pen-name (or "avatar" as she calls it), the book gets big, and she hires this other woman to pretend to be said "avatar"? and wore shitty wigs along the way? is that what this was? cause that trailer was kinda confusing.

basically. but like - so the book she wrote was REALLY effed up like child prostitution, drugs and all these fucked up scenes - and they claimed it was basically an 'autobiography' of this fake JT Leroy person. So it wasnt just a fake author he was this whole fake person with this tragic backstory that he ~overcame

This whole thing just reminds me of seeing Garbage in concert in 2002 and Shirley telling the (what was believed to be true at the time) story of JT Leroy before singing Cherry Lips. /csb

i went to an event at the public theater in new york in like 2003 for jt leroy. shirley was there, debbie harry, winona ryder, some band called "thistle." it was ridiculous. they were just FAWNING over him.
