studios absolutely refuse anything that isn't an established name, i think they bank on parents who are taking the kids anyway most of the time, and you get these weird little throwaways like Goosebumps that still end up pretty good movies. it's not sound thinking at all and your question is valid, but it's such a small genre it makes me happy for the kids since we made superman a psycho killer, batman a psycho killer and held spiderman hostage from them for over a decade.
