PART ONE
Fifteen years ago, artists like Nina Sky, Hoobastank, and Kevin Lyttle were topping the charts. Many of the artists who created their major 2004 hits were never able to replicate the success. However, it's always fun to revist the past and remember what we were doing when we were listening to these songs back in the day. This list continues "part two" of our 2000's one hit wonder series. Let's take another look at the best one hit wonders of the year 2004!
KIMBERLY LOCKE - 8TH WORLD WONDER
Click to view"8th World Wonder"is the debut single from American Idol finalist Kimberley Locke. The single debuted on the Billboard Singles Sales Chart at no. 1, making it the first non-Idol single to top the chart from any Idol finalist at the time. "8th World Wonder" is one of the longest-running Idol singles to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, spending 20 weeks on the chart and peaking at number 49. Outside the United States, the song only managed to chart in the United Kingdom, also reaching number 49.
SARAH CONNOR - BOUNCE
"Bounce" is a song by German recording artist Sarah Connor that was released in 2002. The song samples Mary J. Blige's 2001 song "Family Affair." Bounce was originally released as the album's fourth and final single in Central Europe in July 2003. It reached the top twenty in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Walloon Region of Belgium. Due to large amounts of airplay in the United States, the song reached no. 11 on Billboard's Top 40 Mainstream and no. 21 on Top 40 Tracks charts, eventually charting on the Billboard Hot 100 at nno. 44. "Bounce" was given a physical US release in May 2004, serving as Connor's debut single there.
MARIO WINANS - I DON'T WANNA KNOW
"I Don't Wanna Know" was released in February 2004, featuring P. Diddy and re-recorded background vocals by Enya. It reached no. 1 in the United Kingdom and in the Netherlands, and no. 2 on the Hot 100 in the United States, stuck for eight consecutive weeks behind the Usher singles "Yeah!" and "Burn." It remains Winans' only major success to date.
HOUSTON - I LIKE THAT
"I Like That" was the first single off Houston's 2004 debut album. It features Chingy, Nate Dogg, and I-20. Released in March 2004, the track peaked at no. 3 on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and no. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart. The song also charted in the top 40 in countries like Australia, France, Italy, New Zealand, and Switzerland.
CHERIE - I'M READY
"I'm Ready" was released by French pop singer Cherie in 2004 from her self-titled album Cherie. The song reached no. 1 on the U.S. Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, becoming her biggest hit. It also peaked on no. 99 on the Billboard Hot 100 thanks to being featured on the soundtrack for 2004's 'Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen.'
NITTY - NASTY GIRL
"Nasty Girl" was released by Nitty in 2004 from his album Player's Paradise. The song peaked at no. 87 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached number one in Australia.
LINDSAY LOHAN - RUMORS
Lindsay's "Rumors" achieved moderate commercial success worldwide, reaching top 30 positions in Australia, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. In the United States, the song peaked at no. 6 on Billboard's Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles, but was certified Gold by the RIAA for shipping over 500,000 units. Although lindsay went on to be anything but a "wonder," rumors is her only success to date when it comes to her music career.
FRANZ FERDINAND - TAKE ME OUT
"Take Me Out" reached no. 3 in the UK Singles Chart. In the U.S., it reached no. 3 on Modern Rock Tracks chart and no. 66 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was a number-seven hit on the Canadian Singles Chart, and also reached no. 1 on the UK Indie Chart. In November 2004, the single was certified Gold by the RIAA.
GRETCHEN WILSON - REDNECK WOMAN
Gretchen Wilson's "Redneck Woman" spent five weeks at no. 1 on the Hot Country Songs charts. On Billboard Hot 100, the song reached no. 22, becoming Wilson's highest-charting single. Outside the United States, "Redneck Woman" proved to be a moderate success in three countries: Australia, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.
MARIA MENA - YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE
Maria Mena made a breakthrough into the worldwide singles charts in 2004 with "You're the Only One", which became successful in multiple countries. It was Maria's only single to appear on a Billboard Hot 100 chart. peaking at no. 86 and making no. 25 on the U.S. Top 40 Mainstream. "You're the Only One" peaked at no. 30 on the Dutch Top 40 and no. 19 on the Dutch Mega Single Top 100.
