Dead people can't celebrate anniversaries. You wouldn't celebrate a 40th wedding anniversary if you got divorced after 20 years even though the wedding still happened on that specific day.
It's always been dumb to add years that don't exist to dead people's lives. It's fine if you want to celebrate on that particular day (although it typically makes more sense to memorialize the anniversary of their death) but going on about how he would've been 57 is ridiculous.

I don't see how framing their birthday as "this is how many years old they would be if they didn't tragically die a decade ago" is in any way less depressing than remembering someone on the anniversary that you lost them.
i can't believe i'm having this argument... i don't even care that much about steve irwin lmao but this isn't exactly someone new... family and fans frequently celebrate/acknowledge the birthdays of dead celebs
