dead people don't have birthdays.

Dead people can't celebrate anniversaries. You wouldn't celebrate a 40th wedding anniversary if you got divorced after 20 years even though the wedding still happened on that specific day.

well first of all the dead guy isn't celebrating it... his FAMILY and fans are. what exactly is wrong with that?

and i've never seen comments like this in any other post about a dead celebrity's birthday. why is it suddenly a problem now?

It's always been dumb to add years that don't exist to dead people's lives. It's fine if you want to celebrate on that particular day (although it typically makes more sense to memorialize the anniversary of their death) but going on about how he would've been 57 is ridiculous.

you're right. it's so dumb. people are just the stupidest for mourning people they loved. on their birthday instead of on the day of their death, which would be inherently more depressing.

I don't see how framing their birthday as "this is how many years old they would be if they didn't tragically die a decade ago" is in any way less depressing than remembering someone on the anniversary that you lost them.

i can't believe i'm having this argument... i don't even care that much about steve irwin lmao but this isn't exactly someone new... family and fans frequently celebrate/acknowledge the birthdays of dead celebs

I just gotta assume these people haven’t had someone they know die because that’s the only thing that can make any sort of sense....

Like.. my brother died a few months ago and you best believe imma celebrate the fuck out of his birthday this year and every year until I die
