February 18, 2019 A recent study suggests that YouTube is to blame for the rise in Flat Earth believers. Assistant professor of science communication at Texas Tech University, Asheley Landrum, attended some of the biggest Flat Earthers conventions and surveyed 30 people. 29 of them said they believed the Earth was flat after watching videos on YouTube.
While Landrum doesn’t outright blame the popular video-sharing website, she does say that they can do better by tweaking the platform’s algorithm to show more accurate information. Last month, the company said it would start “reducing recommendations of borderline content and content that could misinform users in harmful ways” and that it would be a “gradual change.”
ONTD, do you watch conspiracy videos on YouTube?
