Film Directors React to Oscars During Commercials
In the history of CINEMA, masterpieces have existed without sound, without color, without a story, without actors and without music. No one single film has ever existed without CINEMAtography and without editing.

Yesterday, AMPAS announced their intention to present four Oscars during commercial breaks to save time during the broadcast - Cinematography, Editing, Hair and Makeup, and Live Action Short Film (check out the ONTD post here). The outcry on film twitter was loud and immediate, and now some directors are speaking up. Alfonso Cuarón, an Academy Award-winning director, who is nominated again this year for directing Roma, was one of them. Check out more under the cut.
If I may: I would not presume to suggest what categories to cut during the Oscars show but - Cinematography and Editing are at the very heart of our craft. They are not inherited from a theatrical tradition or a literary tradition: they are cinema itself.

It's especially disgraceful for the Academy to issue a statement saying its mission is "to promote films to a wordwide audience" while brushing off Best Cinematography in a year in which, for the first time, three foreign-language films are nominated in the category.
