In addition to the terrible racism, his story was absolutely awful because it is just such a typical male response to a woman being sexually assaulted. Instead of supporting her, he makes it all about himself and his feelings, and makes horrible, violent decisions - not knowing or caring that if he had ended up hurting an innocent person in a racist attack, his friend would have the added guilt and burden of knowing that this happened because she disclosed her trauma to a friend. Women have so many reasons not to disclose sexual violence. Men’s violent and destructive reaction is one of them.
