Oof, I know this week's release slate is rough, but surely you've been watching movies at home?

I went to see Mary Poppins Returns on Monday night and really enjoyed it, despite all the middling reviews. It didn't live up the original, because how could it, but I thought it was well done all the same. I didn't like the leery-speak, or the BMX stunts, or the scene they wrote specifically for Meryl Streep, but Emily Blunt was great despite having gigantic shoes to fill.

Probably gonna go see Vice or On the Basis of Sex tonight.

I got around to seeing the complete non-entity in the Animated Race, Smallfoot.

The songs were okayish.

I saw the trailer for that quite a few times, but I didn't know there were songs involved. It looked cute.

There's four...and two of them are sung by actually competent people (Zendaya and Common)!

It does show that WAG just doesn't have the spark that Dreamworks, Disney, Pixar, or Sony does with animation.

I watched If Beale Street Could Talk yesterday. Still thinking about it today. It was beautiful. The criticism I've seen the most is that it's kinda sterile, in that it's just too pretty and clean, which is a criticism I can understand, to be honest. But man, the cinematography, the score, the acting from Kiki and Stephan were all phenomenal that any issues I had were just thrown out the window. Tbh, Regina wouldn't be my choice for Supporting (Rachel and Emma in the Favourite are), but if she pulls off a win then at least it was for a good movie (unlike Amy in Vice). Barry Jenkins should be getting more love for his direction/writing, not that penis flashing bitch Farrelly.

Gonna see On The Basis of Sex and Spider-Verse this weekend.
