FOX new musical reality show "The Masked Singer", based on the South Korean format "King of Mask Singer", premiered to big ratings last night. The show was watched by 9.4 million people, and got a 3.

Mom and I enjoyed it.  We have no idea who anyone was. To quote my mom, it is cheesy enough to be fun. I also love the work that they did on the outfits.

Bingo on Donnie. And let's not pretend like the clue about moms having his poster on their walls didn't give it away. Or that instead of "moms" it should be "grandmothers" now.

I've always imagined a show like The Voice where you have ACTUAL singers/people worthy of judging a singing competition (aka not fucking Jenny McCarthy) and they're blind-judging other ACTUAL singers (aka not an untalented athlete), to see how much talent is actually in the music business. Like when Rita Ora did The Voice as a prank? but instead of them turning around and having no idea who she was, have them turn around and be like, oh my god! Adele! you're so fantastic! or have nobody turn around for Bebe Rexha.

This whole thing sounds so fucking dumb, but also exactly what everybody's aunt watches after NCIS.

her show wasn't a blind one. it was just a competition between established singers.

The Korean version is exactly like what you described. the format doesn't work in the US, it's just too broad of an industry. in closer knit countries/smaller star systems it's a lot cooler to watch, especially when rly famous performers are on and no one can figure out who it is.

the judging panel on that one is usually made up of current and former pros too.
