saw shoplifters and it is easily my fave this yr (still haven't seen the favourite or beale street tho) and sakura ando was absolutely phenomenal so i'm glad she's getting some love. it's simultaneously so warm and lovely but also so emotionally devastating. like movies about family in general to me but when they're about found families especially? i'm done.

I saw Shoplifters in October as part of our film festival here, and I've thought about it so many times since, like it really stuck with me. Best movie I've seen this year for sure.

I like that there still seems to be a fairly wide range of people taking home awards. Nothing seems set in stone for the big awards yet, which makes it far more interesting.

Breaks my heart that somebody could say Green Book was the best film of the year though. That stings.
