well if the dad is putting in the work, then he should have custody. Ultimately I hope the kids have proper representation with liasons if possible, but if the other parent doesn't come to the court date, that already says more than words.

I honestly wondered what was the reason why Collin was sent away. I think I remember in the post-divorce episodes of J&K+8 they allude that Collin had a tough time with the divorce. I think it's wild that she didn't even show up. I wonder if they even visited Collin while he was away.
