Based on the acclaimed podcast, Dirty John follows John Meehan [Bana] and his relationship with Debra Newell [Britton] and an unbelievable story of deception, love and survival.
It's kinda crazy how you can see almost the exactly same events happening to her daughter and how she reacts in the exactly same way. Like, you're talking about generations upon generations of this family having some psycho men killing/attempting to kill their daughters, and they all choose to ignore that and ~see the good~ in those men.
I listened to the podcast but I don’t want to watch the show. I feel like there was so much nonsense with Deb/her mom. Plus, I don’t really view the ending as a feel good ending worthy of television. Not that all tv has to be, but this is a story about real people. It just skeeves me out for some reason.
i could’t finish the series bc it made me so mad. i often listen to podcasts before falling asleep and this one just made me feel wide awake bc i was so enraged by all the stupidity. lol
Ugh lord, this story was infuriating. Going in I assumed he'd be some genius sociopath who brilliantly tricked everyone -- but no, he was just a regular old asshole and a bad liar from day one. He made he feel uncomfortable on THE FIRST DATE and she kept taking him back over & over and blatantly ignoring her kids' extremely valid fears about him. I can't believe those daughters still speak to her, honestly. And the grandmother getting a MURDERER out of prison because she chose to forgive him?? Uhhhhhh
I stop listening after the second or third episode , whenever the Christmas dinner happened . I haven’t even read the wiki because it just infuriated me .
I'm honestly convinced that her daughter Jacqueline cut her off and that's why her name on the show was changed to "Veronica". Sort of weird that only her name was changed on the show, while everyone else's stayed the same. She's also the one and only person who hasn't had a photo of herself published in all of the overwhelming popularity of this podcast. She strikes me as being someone who'd have enough of this circus of a mother and would just cut her off or at the very least keep her contact with her to a bare minimum for the sake of her own well-being.
