I loved them both! Natalie in particular really fucking went for it, lol, but I already know people are gonna bitch about her accent being OTT. Jude was a perfect fit for his part, imo. And you didn't ask, but Raffey Cassidy was a standout - I'm looking forward to seeing her in more stuff.

Has anyone seen Her Smell? Some friends saw it and they all seemed mixed on whether it was a masterpiece or trash, lmao.

I'm seeing Green Book tomorrow and I'm fully expecting I'm gonna hate it.

Also, did you like Under the Silver Lake and Vox Lux?

Under the Silver Lake was ambitious, but nonsensically unsatisfying. I liked it more than it deserves to be liked, and I think that's mainly because of Andrew Garfield's performance. I loved the way it was shot, and how completely LA it was, but I had issues with the script and the film's overall treatment of women.

I saw that A24 has pushed back its release again, this time to April. I never understood why they moved it from this summer to December in the first place, but I guarantee you that it's not going to make any money no matter when they end up releasing it!

I loved Vox Lux. But jesus, the first ten minutes were A LOT. I stay away from spoilers in general, so I was not at all prepared. The film really worked for me, stylistically and as a commentary on pop culture today, but I think people are going to hate it.

I think A24 pushed UTSL back because for whatever reason the filmmakers took it to Cannes - where it ofc bombed. Maybe they realized they had a real mysoginistic stinker on their hands & decided to delay it inevitably 🤞

"and the film's overall treatment of women."

Yeah, I had issues with that too. On one hand I understand that it was kind of a noir parody, so the noir-like approach to women is not completely out of nowhere. But still, women were only there to be objects and get half-naked and naked a lot, and in the end there wasn't a single female character that would actually be a person, not a sexy object with little actual personality.

I liked how absurd and surreal the movie was, but at the same time the fact that the story didn't even pretend to make sense was a bit of a cop-out. It could have been more coherent.

I was really impressed by Andrew Garfield, though. A less talented actor would make this movie a chore to get through.

i'm fucking stupid bc when i read the title and saw AFI fest and then the movie titles(which i didn't even think were movie titles until i slightly scrolled and saw a photo of sandra bullock) i thought it was a fest for the band AFI and i was like,"oh are those like new songs they're putting out?" i was expecting a post full of davey havok and looks that should've ceased existing in the early 2000s
