A sudden turn of events forces the Conners to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before, on the series premiere of “The Conners,” airing TUESDAY, OCT. 16.
I'm struggling because I hate Roseanne (the person) with every part of my being but love John and Laurie and the original show so IDK if I should watch this bleh.
nah, you can actually work alongside someone whose views are contrary and antithetical to yours. i do it every day. lots of people do it every day.
why should laurie, john and the kids (two of whom have barely worked since the 90s) go without just because the show's creator did such an about-face with her politics? roseanne doesn't sign anyone's pay checks personally.
The difference is that Laurie, John, and Sara don't need the money. They willingly choose to ignore her numerous racists rants and conspiracy theories that existed well before the one that got the show canceled. I'm willing to give the lesser known ones a pass for the same reason that I'm willing to put blame on Laurie, John, and Sara. The lesser known ones may have very much needed the paycheck.
The rest of us don't have the luxury of choosing our jobs, so to speak, but people like Laurie, John, and Sara do.
Part of me wants to see how they write her out but I despise that so many of them were either on her side or more willing to take a check than kick her to the curb from the get go. They knew what they were getting.
I never watched the reboot(for obvious reasons), but from the promos and stuff I saw it appears Becky is a waitress......? So she's a waitress still living in her hometown and presumably still in a trailer park? Fuck, what did Becky ever do to deserve that? Wasn't she the smart and driven one? The one who wanted to go to medical school? They couldn't let her win just a little bit?
The reboot has had a lot of problems, but number one among them imo is how they handled Becky. In the show, Becky went off the rails after Mark died and is a 40 something loser who gets drunk and acts like she's in her 20's. She kinda gets back on track, but not really that much. They seemed to be setting her and Darlene up for a Jackie/Roseanne dynamic which doesn't work for a lot of reasons. They also had Darlene and Jackie making jokes/comments about Becky being a slut in high school, having abortions and dating teachers. All of which never happened, and Darlene & Jackie know it. Jackie maybe could be losing her memory, but it was too far even for Darlene. At least she lived in an apartment I guess.
Hopefully for the Conners they get some better writers and have some interns rewatch the original show and take notes.
What in the absolute fuck? That's just absurd character assassination. Especially the ~slut in high school~ thing because wasn't Becky always the goody two shoes? Like yes, she was popular and dated around and got into trouble(lmao and eloped at 17, but still pretty standard dumb teenage shit), but she was always considered the good kid.
Yeah, she was popular in high school and dated a lot of boys, but she literally talked to Jackie first about getting on the pill because she wanted her help to talk to Roseanne about it, and told Jackie & Roseanne when she finally had sex with Mark -who was the first guy she had sex with. So maybe Darlene would call her a slut, because that's how their relationship was/is, but both Darlene and Jackie knew darn well she didn't date teachers or have an abortion in high school. It was ridiculous.
Really feel like some, if not all, of the writers for the reboot didn't watch the show or have anyone around who did. Hopefully they fix that with the new show. I was seriously disappointed with the reboot's writing and characterization; hopefully Conners fixes it, even just a bit.
