Moore (who is 57 BTW) talks about how much she hates questions about aging:

Oh my God. I’ve been talking about aging since I was 30, can we just be alive! We’re all aging - children are aging. That’s what life is and we have to accept that there’s a beginning, a middle, and an end. It’s important to remember ( Read more... )

This is part of why I rme @ people using skincare culture as a "feminist alternative" to cosmetics lol. In the end, 90% of skincare tips revolve around reversing or slowing /horrified gasps/ the aging process. The other 10% is people trying to shill you snake oil cures for your acne that won't do a damn thing because most people's skin issues are diet or hormone based. It's just as rooted in misogyny and toxic beauty standards as makeup culture. They just want us to hate ourselves so that we'll buy shit.

I used to have the whole big, intense, perfectly curated, intensely researched skincare routine and now all I do is wash my face with a gentle cleanser and moisturize with light moitsurizer. My skin is neither better nor worse than it was before, because the vast majority of my ~skin ailments~ are from high testosteorne that I can't do a damn thing about lol.

Anyway, I like her bit about "we'll hire each other!", although that won't be very realistic until 99% of the industry power no longer rests in male hands :(

Yeah, after all these years, the best skin I've had is solely from just eating right, drinking water, sleeping enough and exercising. No skincare product ever really did more than make my skin feel temporarily soft and cost a lot of money.

yep, by far the best my skin ever looks is when I'm sleeping semi-normal and drinking lots of water lol and I still have break outs during those times because of hormones, the skin is just plumper and less drawn. at the end of the day, perfect skin is honestly a lot more unattainable for most people than perfectly applied makeup LOL so much of it is just genetics and luck. That isn't to say the beauty industry is any less horrible and toxic, just an observation. I can practice my makeup application, but most of what my skin does is totally out of my control, so chasing perfect skin was really harmful to my self esteem, tbh.

I read this in Ron Howard's "Arrested Development" narrator voice and it's cracking me up.
