Maybe Wiz would be more informed if he read the stories of Johnny Gosch and Etan Patz?

Unfortunately we live in a world where kids go missing all the time, and there are plenty that don't because people are far more aware of surroundings. I hope there are at least bus monitors for kindergardners at least.

Your kids can be taken on the bus or get shot at school.

The safest option for a child is to not have one, but it's too late for millions of people.

Some school districts insist kids ride the first day so those kids know bus safety for field trips and stuff.

That said: I respect he wants to give his child ‘child’ experiences. Personally? In his situation I wouldn’t trust no one but myself and my child’s other parent to take them to and from school. Shit. I don’t even trust American schools. I can’t stomach the thought of my babies in the American school system.

The only thing you do in American school systems is learn how to avoid gunfire and not be prepared for the modern day.

And you can’t even guarantee avoiding gunfire.

My heart can’t handle it. I’ve fought with my loved one relentlessly about schools. Last year my nephew’s school was put on lockdown. An elementary school. People are fucked up and I don’t trust anyone. Then there’s the deeper systematic issues with the school system. You can’t even guarantee a private school education is going to prepare them. I have met some of the most naive souls that have come out of top ranking private schools. There’s no winning.

Were they on lockdown because of something that happened at their school or a neighboring school?

My kid’s elementary schools goes on lockdown due to the high school a couple miles away going on lockdown (a lot of false threats being made sort of stuff). It’s mandatory for all schools within a certain vacinity to do so. It’s super annoying, but thankfully the issue has never been at their school.

the post about Emily Hampshire earlier this week inspired me to rewatch the series, and when I got to this episode, I knew I needed a new icon

Who cares if his kid experiences something 99% of children experience? Not being there to pick him up on his first day of school is a little different depending on circumstances.
